About This Watch
An elegant 1970s Hamilton dress watch in a slim gold-plated case, presenting a glossy chocolate-brown dial with crisp printed white Roman numerals, the iconic Hamilton “H” star logo and a Swiss manual-wind movement — complete with its original Hamilton presentation box.

Hamilton was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1892 and rose to fame on the back of railroad-grade pocket watches and military issue. From 1969 the brand was absorbed into the Swiss SSIH group, and Hamilton's wristwatches from that point onwards were Swiss-made — combining the firm's distinctly American dress-watch design language with reliable Swiss calibres, as elegantly demonstrated here.

The dial is in beautiful order: a deep glossy chocolate-brown surface with finely printed white Roman numerals at every hour, slender white dauphine hour and minute hands and a thin centre seconds. The gold-plated case is slim and crisp, retaining strong colour with only the lightest signs of wear, and the signed gold-tone crown is intact.

It is fitted to a brown leather strap with a signed Hamilton-style gold-tone buckle — a thoroughly fitting pairing for the warm tones of the dial. On the wrist the proportions are textbook 1970s dress: a slim profile, balanced ~35mm case and a quietly confident presence.

Brown-dial Hamiltons of this era are increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate restrained 1970s design, and to find one complete with its original Hamilton presentation box is a real bonus. A characterful and very wearable vintage piece for the discerning dress-watch enthusiast.
